Every year millions of people the world over take first aid courses so that they might be of some help if another person is injured or suffers a heart attack or other emergency. When they are able to successfully intervene they are rightfully considered heroes and recognised for their quick thinking and effective action.
Yet if someone is experiencing a mental health emergency virtually no one is prepared or qualified to intervene. The culprit lies in age-old superstitions, fears and misunderstandings surrounding the causes of mental ill-health and the factors that can affect it. Our adult mental health first aid courses provide an in-depth understanding of mental health issues as well as practical tools for providing assistance.
Our goal is a simple but important one: to create courses and resources that enable ordinary citizens to intervene during mental health emergencies in the same fearless manner they would intervene if someone were physically injured and in need of first aid.
